Sustainability in Architecture

Sustainable and Organic architecture stems from a reverence of the natural environment and an understanding that the wellbeing of the human psyche cannot be nurtured by removing people from the natural world in which they belong. Sustainability is important as there is more pressure on resources, but it's not simply a matter of energy and resources. Light is a powerful substance. The qualities of the space must be seen, and the architecture of the form must not be dominant. To this end, Organic buildings grow from the ground as one with their site, but they also provide occupants a connection to the exterior environment. It's about making the most of limited means, including resources and energy, and remembering that buildings have a purpose and a mission. We have a primal connection to it, a certain attitude to architectural design and architecture should begin with the way it is used, and not as a sculptured object. Architecture took off as high art, a fragile, delicate aesthetic, an idea that no matter how heavy architecture is, it still can be floating on air.
